PSYCHOLOGICAL LANDSCAPES
fstoppers.com/originals/what-difference-between-cinema-and-still-lenses-167167 Cycle will be the first project that I will shoot using the new Samyang Lens Kit. I’m excited about my first opportunity to use cine lenses and decided to brush up on the functionality differences between cine lens and the still photography lenses that I have used up to this point. Cine lenses have a wealth of features that make them ideal for shooting narrative films, such as smooth and far ranging focus rings, no lens breathing that can distort the field of view when zooming in or out and the ability to precisely match exposure across the range of focal lengths included in the kit.

I have worked with Laura once before on my previous film, The Unwanted and found her to be a more than capable dramatic actress. Laura has a very distinctive sounding voice that I felt would deliver the right amount of early morning weariness while still retaining a genuine, caring and concerned edge where needed. As Amy is no push over and will hold her own against Rob where necessary, she will also need to be forceful with her voice at specific points. www.spotlight.com/0215-0169-2489 As Cycle is essentially a one man show, I wanted to cast the strongest actor I could find to draw the audience into Rob's blight while also making them repulsed by his addiction and behaviour. After considering 4 actors applications, I decided that Adam J S Smith would be best suited to play the role of Rob. Adam’s pale skin and thin frame fits the description of a cocaine addict well and at 32 years old I felt he would have the relevant life experience to craft a believable, lived in portrayal of Rob. Adam's Spotlight page showcases an impressive body of work that includes many theatrical and short film roles as well as appearances on the TV show Poldark. His show reel displays a talent for conveying emotion during scenes of an uncomfortable, emotionally bare nature, an ability that will help convey the emotional lows that Rob experiences in Cycle. Adams background in theatre could also prove to be very beneficial to his role in Cycle as he will be required to act out each "cycle" from start to finish. www.hopesandfears.com/hopes/culture/film/216549-cocaine-fake-prop-the-knick-goodfellas As the protagonist of Cycle is a cocaine addict, I decided to do some research on what replacements for the real thing experienced prop masters suggest for scenes of the drugs use. After reading several articles powered Inositol was named time and time again as being the safest and most realistic substitute. Real cocaine is often cut with this vitamin B compound and unlike sugar or flour it won’t turn sticky or clumpy if exposed to moisture. Thankfully, Inositol is readily available to purchase in small quantities and I had no trouble finding a 100g pouch for under five pounds on Amazon.com.
